Monologue for Daniel Friedl or someone who plays Daniel Friedl / by Konstantin Küspert
Psychologisches Institut
[recommended for ages 16 and up]
Is self-immolation resistance? This provocative question lies at the heart of Konstantin Küspert's new play. The theatres are closed due to the Covid pandemic. An actor at the coffee counter is starting to question his profession and his life. He sets out to find meaning. He delves into meditations of Buddhist monks, even goes to Japan. In great detail, Konstantin Küspert describes the practice of self-mummification (it has been banned since the nineteenth century) as the direct path to Nirvana or as an extreme form of resistance. The actor Daniel Friedl choses a different path. But which path? Opening a coffee stall? Going on as an actor? Both?
