The young countertenor Franko Klisovic is considered the »discovery of the hour« and only made his debut in Germany in April 2023 with the role of Ottone (Monteverdi's »L'Incoronazione di Poppea« - Wuppertal Opera) and previously attracted international attention with his celebrated debut at the Teatro Real Madrid as Ulisse in Corselli's »Achille in Sciro«.
Franko Klisović was born in Šibenik (Croatia) and worked as an organist in his school days, which initially led him to study conducting, which he completed at the Zagreb Academy of Music. He began his vocal studies at the end of 2015 and after only three months landed the role of Ottone in Handel's Agrippina, with which he made his debut at the Croatian National Theatre Zagreb in April 2016. Another highlight of his young career came in the 2020/21 season, when he was invited to sing Nireno in Handel's Giulio Cesare in Egitto in Rijeka, as well as at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in Finland in 2022.
He has won numerous prizes at international singing competitions and, in addition to operas, performs frequently as an oratorio and concert soloist, giving concerts in works from Monteverdi to Bruckner, in all of J. S. Bach's Passions, and recently in Carl Orff's Carmina Burana alongside the famous soprano Sumi Jo.
He also collaborates with well-known conductors such as Marc Korovich, Ville Matvejeff, Laurence Cummings and Aapo Häkkinen, among others,
In addition to his debut at the Winter in Schwetzingen in Reinhard Keiser's Nebucadnezzar, he will sing the part of Hamor in Handel's Jephta in Heidelberg's St. Peter's Church as an ensemble member of the 23/24 season with the Bach Choir Heidelberg and will have the pleasure of presenting himself as Apollo (Death in Venice) and in the world premiere Zusammenstoss. In May 2024, the Croatian alto will devote himself to the part of Arcane in Handel's Teseo, which will be presented in concert at the Wroclaw Concert Hall and at the Halle Handel Festival.
