»Where you come from« is set in a village where only thirteen inhabitants remain, a country that no longer exists today and a divided family that is mine. »Where you come from« is a book about my homelands, both remembered and imagined. A book about language and shame, settling in and getting by, luck and death.
Saša Stanišić lived in Heidelberg from 1992 until 2004. As a teenager, he lived in Emmertsgrund and went to the Internationale Gesamtschule Heidelberg (International Comprehensive School). He covers this time in his novel that received the German Book Price in 2019: He describes growing up in Germany in the 1990ies during the Yugoslav Wars. After a successful stage adaptation, »Where you come from« now finally conquers the big stage of the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg.
The production of the decorative parts is carried out in the workshops of the Theater und Orchester Heidelberg.
