The Light of the World

Tent, camping mat, sleeping bag, hot water bottle: that's what it says on the online packing list for the protest camp. The hot water bottle is the most important bit, though, because clearance season is in winter, and occupations are no walk in the park. So the daily hot water bottle issue in the awareness tent is an important point of every day, as Rabe, new arrival to the camp, quickly realizes. She only wanted to stay for a few days, really, but the days turn into weeks and she will call this place her home. Or will it have been her home? In her new piece »Das Licht der Welt«, Raphaela Bardutzky plays with times, but also with the expectations a young generation has for their own life. And thus one meets six people with different biographies, who are united in one thing: they are young, and they are fully committed to fighting for a future that is not only climate-just but also more diverse, more feminist, more queer and more migrant, reflecting the reality their generation lives in. Quite: how do we deal with a world that is obviously going downhill? How do you respond to (police) violence? How do we envision a togetherness that would make the future possible?
