La Cenerentola

Comic opera in two acts by Gioachino Rossini

Musical Theatre
Marguerre-Saal
Libretto by Jacopo Ferretti / in Italian with German supertitles
[recommended for ages 13 and up]

Not a day passes that Angelina does not long for a better life. In the house of impoverished Baron Magnifico, where appearances need to be maintained at all costs, her tyrannical stepsisters make her life difficult. While they get dressed up to find a wealthy man, Angelina has to scrub the floors, until one day Prince Ramiro notices Angelina alias Cinderella. Will it all turn out alright in the end?

In his last opera, Rossini manages to combine the high art of the bel canto with the comedy of a commedia dell'arte. With »La Cenerentola« he created a musical masterpiece that – in-between flowing coloratura and gushing parlandi – tells the moving story of a young woman who remains good-hearted and conciliatory despite the injustice she suffers.
