In his new creation, »Reality and the Cosmos«, the artistic director of Dance Theatre Heidelberg (DTH), Iván Pérez, plays with cosmological visions on stage. In collaboration with the Japanese visual artist Yoko Seyama and inspired by transformation processes, Pérez shines a stark light on our fascination with the universe. Based on the idea that creative acts reflect our evolutionary sense of identity, »Reality and the Cosmos« invites the audience to ponder our reality from a further perspective.

DTH dancers and musicians of the Philharmonic Orchestra Heidelberg explore new territories and create a poetic universe rich in musical, physical, and visual compositions.

This production is accompanied by a programme from the Arts & Education team.

In seinem neuen Tanzstück verbinde Iván Pérez sein »Gespür für Spiritualität« mit »einer ausdrucksvollen Choreografie«, deren »Sog« man als Zuschauer erliegen könne, schreibt Alexandra Karabelas in der Deutschen Bühne (online, 23. Mai 2023). »Der Kosmos ist Rhythmus, Klang und Schwingung.« Dies zeige und erzähle Pérez’ »herrliches neues Tanzstück«. Die Welt werde »gespiegelt als Bewegung und Klang und der Kosmos« finde im Orchester »seine entscheidende Metapher«; was die Musik in sich trage, brächten die Körper der Tänzer*innen zur Anschauung.

Iván Pérez habe erneut eine »bemerkenswerte Choreografie« erarbeitet, meint Ute Maag im Mannheimer Morgen (23. Mai 2023), in der er »philosophische und persönliche Fragen« stelle, die von den Weiten des Kosmos »direkt in die Tiefen der menschlichen Psyche« führten. Der Choreograf spiele mit »Motiven der Anziehungskraft, von Konformität und Individualität, von Chaos und Ordnung« in vier sehr unterschiedlichen Szenen, in denen »Tänzer, Musiker und Zuschauer […] zueinander« fänden. Der Rezensentin gefallen der »beeindruckende Bühnenkosmos«, das »ausgeklügelte Lichtkonzept« und die Interaktion von Tanz und Live-Musik, die zu »anrührenden« Momenten führe – das Premierenpublikum habe »alle Mitwirkenden begeistert« gefeiert.
