Il barbiere di Siviglia

Opera buffa in two acts by Gioachino Rossini

Musical Theatre
Marguerre-Saal
Libretto by Cesare Sterbini / in Italian with German supertitles
[recommended for ages 14 and up]

There's nothing for it: count Almaviva wants to win the young Rosina's love. He joins forces with the barber Figaro, an infamous crook who is known throughout the town, and cooks up a plan to win the heart of Rosina in disguise. To get there, he has to get past Dr. Bartolo, Rosina's guardian, with whom she lives. However, Bartolo has his own plans to marry his ward – not least for her inheritance.

Gioachino Rossini was only 23 when he presented his seventeenth opera, »Il barbiere di Siviglia«. It conquered the globe in no time. The composer, who played the cello, the violin, the cembalo, the French horn and the organ, sang and dabbled in the art of cooking as well as being a gifted musical humorist, created a lively musical intrigue that has not been matched to this day.

This production is accompanied by a programme from the Arts & Education team.
