Firebird & Rite of Spring
by Iván Pérez with Musik by Igor Stravinsky
Marguerre-Saal
In 1910 and 1913 respectively, »Firebird« and »Rite of Spring« were premiered in Paris. These two iconic moments in the history of dance, set to music by Igor Stravinsky and choreographed by Michel Fokine and Vaslav Nijinsky, mark both a highpoint and a clear break in the tradition of ballet. »Firebird & Rite of Spring« by Iván Pérez, artistic director of Dance Theatre Heidelberg (DTH), first foregrounds the mythical and enigmatic figure of the firebird. We then witness a tightly closed community that violently ostracizes one of its members.
This production is accompanied by a programme from the Arts & Education team.
By way of introduction, listen to an interview in English with the choreographer Iván Pérez. The questions were asked by dance dramaturge Marcos Mariz.
